Sick toddler home from daycare today. Head feels like it's full of casserole. Needed this reminder, so thank you.

Oof I know the casserole-brain feeling! I hope a big glass of water makes today a teeny tiny bit easier.

I will go against the grain here and share that one of the best things I did for myself in 2024 was to drink less water. I used to drink so. much. water. Easily double (possibly triple) the recommended amount. I guzzled water like a machine. And was always mildly anxious of not having enough water with me, resulting in me lugging around a 950ml water of bottle (which is as heavy as you imagine it to be) everywhere. A couple of months ago, I decided to buy smaller bottles of water (500 and 750ml) to carry in my backpack and shoulder bag, and also at the same time decided to try drinking less (my mother has been urging me to drink less water for years, my partner also frequently remarks on how much water I drink). And to my surprise, I don't feel any different on less water. I don't feel thirsty all the time (as I feared). I feel as fresh and energetic as ever. And what's more, my water-related anxieties are gone. I feel liberated. I can now go out with a 500ml bottle and not worry endlessly that I will dehydrate.

The moral of my story, I guess, is that it's always better to be intentional in what you do. Before, I was guzzling water on automatic. Whenever I was bored I reached for my glass/bottle, so I ended up drinking endlessly. And now I am a lot more intentional about drinking. I drink what my body needs. And it's done wonders for my sanity.
