My floors are super clean right now for exactly this same reason. I love that you’ve named it and I always feel so seen and supported with your words! From one sweet dumb brain to another! 💙
It is absolutely wild to me -- WILD! -- that your paid subscriptions have dropped. I could say so much more, but I'll just say this: I get so freaking much out of your writing, and the time I spend reading your words feels like such a respite. It's unlike any other newsletter I subscribe to and my heart lifts each time I see it pop up in my inbox. Truly! However long you write MSDB is how long I'm a paid subsciber. I'm grateful to you, Katie.
The owner of a yoga studio near me recently said she’s stopped trying to understand why people show up to classes. “It has nothing to do with the weather or the news, or who’s teaching or what class it is. As far as I can tell, it’s impossible to understand the reason.” She said not to feel bad for her when class is small, or happy for her when it is full. It was such a graceful way of being in relationship with her studio and offerings!! I was like, wow, that’s some zen right there, girlfriend. I thought of this with your mention of subscription rates. Yes, sometimes it has actually nothing to do with us! Not our failures or successes. 💞 All this said, this is a beautiful space and you are doing important work, staying true to yourself and offering “a brief respite from the chaos. A reminder that you are human. That you care. That you are empathetic and compassionate. And that one of the best things you can do is love yourself — so that you have the capacity to love and care for others.” Brava and may it ripple out!
Wow, I've just finished a round of revision for my newsletter this week, and guess what the main takeaway of it will be: self-compassion! I get to it through a very different route, but it's nice that we're touching on the same topic this week. Another lovely piece to read, thank you Katie! :)
"And I hope you won’t beat yourself up for whatever it is that’s nagging at you, either. I hope you’ll choose compassion." - this is exactly what I needed to read today, right now. Thank you ✨
I can truly relate to all of this. The 3 am writerly dread that once awakened me with its unfounded, unbidden whys (why? Why am I writing? Does anyone care? Has it helped anyone? Why bother? Why?) has now expanded to dread on many levels. Some unfounded, some that make me want to, well, scrub clean the soul of my house.
Thank you for this reminder that we’re in this together.
I needed to read so many lines throughout this newsletter today, so thank you! Your newsletter fills me with a sense of deep relatability that is so needed, especially right now.

That’s so kind. Thanks, Anne!
I am a stress and anxiety cleaner as well. Much to relate to here and thank you!
Thanks, Julie!

Oh this is such a helpful way of looking at things. Thank you, Kara!
Rebecca, you don’t know how much I needed to read this. Thank you!
I'm here anytime you need a reality check on how much of a gift your writing is. I mean it.
