I love when you write about Jamie. Grief becomes part of who we are. It changes us in so many profound ways. When I share hope, I always remember to share that the journey is long...but, I promise them that the darkness WILL lift...after all, that is how the light comes in again. There is no time stamp, but, the memories thankfully will flow again, the ones that bonded us forever to one another.
I love that your wrote about Inside Out! I think about this movie an absurd amount. Especially as a parent. When I’m trying to be present the fleeting, joyful moments with my kids I can almost see the memories being that mix of yellow and blue like I’m already sad the moments are going by so fast if that makes sense. On another note, I learned in therapy that there is a method that is somewhat similar to what is depicted in the movie called Internal Family Systems where you identify and relate to your individual “parts”. It’s really interesting! Anyway thank for this beautiful newsletter.
Katie, thanks for sharing that personal story. Yes, the feel of our memories change over time as we change. Our perspective at each slice of life adapts as we do to meet the challenges of our life at that moment. The core of those memories don't change, I believe. But our context might... good or bad, we still have the memories that make us who we are. Thanks! David
It must be difficult at times for you dealing with such waves of emotions over someone you once loved. Being able to have that kind of love with someone was a blessing in my eyes. And for them to still make you feel happy at times by their memories. So many people don't get to experience such a love. I'm happy though that you have shared this love and loss with all of us. Your sharing spreads hope for many Katie.
Another beautiful essay Katie, thank you. I have to admit I'm not a fan of "Inside Out". For some reason it didn't resonate with me. But I am a huge fan of "Soul" and "Up". Also, keep that meditation streak going! I'm on Day 47 of my push-up streak so far and I'm determined!
Inside Out is one of our favorite movies! Our whole podcast is devoted to discussions relating to emotional needs, which is SEVERELY lacking from our society today.
I'm so sorry for your loss, grieve with you as you remember those hurts, and applaud you for your open, honest, and vulnerable sharing of them.

I think about it an absurd amount too! And thank you for telling me about Internal Family Systems—that is super interesting!
Oh, I loved this so much, Katie. You capture life so perfectly -- every time, but especially this time.
Thank you, Terrell! That means so much.
