As with most new adventures, I tried to prepare her beforehand by talking through what to expect. I told her about the comfy seats and yummy snacks. I did my best to explain what previews were and how loud and dark the theater would get. And I stressed the importance of going to the bathroom before the movie began.

I also thought about intermissions and how rare they can be, whether in life or in movies. Isn’t it nice to take a moment every so often to stretch and reflect? (And, sure, to pee?)
