There’s one lesson you learn pretty quickly when writing a newsletter: You can’t please everyone.Â
This is a tough reality to swallow if, like me, you are a people-pleaser. But it’s also a truth that, once accepted, can be incredibly liberating. No matter how hard you try, there will always be someone, for some reason, who doesn’t agree with you or isn’t happy. And that’s ok! Sooner or later you realize that this is not a reflection on you; it’s a reflection on how different we all are.
With that said, I’m taking a deep breath and asking you to fill out a survey. Tell me what you like (and don’t like!) about My Sweet Dumb Brain. Some of you might prefer fewer or shorter newsletters. Others might like additional, longer issues. Some folks will tell me they love it when I write about non-grief topics like parenthood or work. Other readers might prefer that I stick to the topic that inspired this newsletter in the first place.
I want to hear it all! The survey will take 5-10 minutes to complete. Please share your thoughts.
While I understand that I can’t please everyone, I also greatly value feedback. It’s been three years since I started this newsletter, and it’s grown exponentially since then. I’m now writing to an audience of more than 5,000 readers—a truly mind-blowing fact!—and I would love to learn more about what brought you to My Sweet Dumb Brain and why you’ve decided to stick around.
As we head into the final months of 2021, I’m starting to think about how I’d like to adapt and improve this newsletter in the coming year. Your survey responses will help with that! I never want to feel like My Sweet Dumb Brain is a one-way relationship; your input and feedback have improved it from the start.
You can fill out the survey here. Thank you for reading this newsletter, thank you for taking the time to share your input, and thank you for being you. Hands down, my favorite thing about writing this newsletter is hearing back from readers each week.
xoxo KHG
p.s. Don’t want to fill out the survey, but have some feedback to share? You can hit reply and respond directly to this email. I always read all of your responses!
